Dear Brass Tax Presentations, An individual leased a Tesla Model 3. Can he get any of the $7500 credit on his tax return? I say no. Sorry, just so much conflicting information out there. Thank you so much.

The taxpayer must purchase the vehicle for use to qualify for any of the clean vehicle credits. Sometimes, when a taxpayer leases a vehicle, they will receive a $7,500 lease reduction from the dealer because the dealer gets to claim the commercial clean vehicle credit, but there are no tax benefits claimed on the return for the taxpayer who leased the vehicle.
